These are circle dances using simple folk dance movements. We chant sacred phrases honoring the worlds’ many spiritual traditions.
Learning each dance before we do it is a part of the fun. We may be singing in Sanskrit, Hindi, Hebrew, Arabic, Aramaic, English, Latin, Greek, Russian, Tibetan. Our intention is to be wholehearted and access our divine selves, be in the moment, celebrate community, and experience beauty. These dances are moving, whole-body meditations. The dances are oriented toward group connection and similar to many folk style dances, you will sometimes be partnered and your partner will change often.
These dances are the inspiration of Samuel Lewis. He was a student and master of many spiritual disciplines. In the late 60’s he was inspired to create “peace through the arts”. He created many dances and since his passing, hundreds more have been created. These dances are led all over the world.
Local dances of universal peace community.
Our local dance community gathers regularly in western Colorado. A potluck is often part of the gathering as well as singing, meditation, and laughter yoga. We also hold annual weekend and week long retreats, both on our land and in other places that we enjoy visiting. The Puerto Morelos, Mexico, dance camp in February has become a favorite for many. Be sure to check our events page for many great dances of peace retreats and events.
